How to use vitamin C in skin care

Vitamin C is suitable for all skin types and has a wide range of benefits. You can use it in simple quick ways like a cream or more sophisticated ones like targeted serums and face masks. It really comes down to what you prefer. With today’s obsession over skin care, choosing the right product in the right form can be a bit challenging so let’s have a quick summary of types of products containing vitamin C and what type may be perfect for you.

The easiest way to apply any vitamin or substance is in form of a cream. It’s simple enough and quick if you don’t really have time for a 5 step skin care routine. Cream with vitamin C will help even your skin tone since it reduces pigmentation. It also prevents the skin from losing moisture so vitamin C cream is going to make your skin look very youthful and glowy.

I would recommend vitamin C products especially to people with sensitive skin that easily breaks out and then takes forever to heal. Vitamin C speeds up the process of healing, so if this is your specific problem, you can try a targeted serum, which contains higher concentration of vitamin C than a cream.

When it comes to moisturizing, it’s great to include a face mask every once in a while into your skincare to deeply nourish and moisturize the skin. If you don’t really have a specific image of what type of face mask you need because you don’t have any specific skin problem, then vitamin C mask is just righ for you. It’s suitable for all skin types, helps retain moisture and will keep your skin supple and juicy.

Because of it’s brightening properties vitamin C can help with reducing dark circles under eyes, so eye cream is a really reasonable way to use it. Moreover, it stimulates collagen production and reduces soft lines and wrinkles, so before you start considering botox try to give vitamin C eye cream a chance.

And finally, if you’re an oily skin girlie like me a vitamin C cleanser is a certainty that your skin will be properly cleansed wihout taking the risk of a bad reaction or breakout.

Vitamin C in my personal skin care.

I have a mixed skin type, leaning more towards oily. When I was younger I used to struggle with terrible acne. As I learned a little about skin care I started to use niacinamide that helped to calm down the inflammation and control the oil production. Vitamin C and niacinamide don’t really go well together as they could neutralize each other’s effects.

So targeted vitamin C serums and creams are not really the best choice for me. I use niacinamide serum in the morning so when I want to use vitamin C it has to be in the evening. That leaves me with cleansing vitamin C products and occasional face masks. My favourite are definitely face masks, I use them once a week, usually on weekends. I don’t get as much sleep as I think I need and I work a lot behind the screen, so my skin often looks worn out and dull, but vitamin C mask helps to bring back that glow and makes me look rested and lively. I really see the result especially when I have a few days off and I add a good night sleep into the routine, you can see the result in the picture above, which was taken after a week long holiday. Vitamin C face mask and enough sleep make my skin look like from a magazine, shiny and youthful and I get to enjoy this model look until I get consumed by work again 😉
